The 40th 4th of July

A Beautiful Day for Whale Sightings
Capturing the Moment
This year’s 4th of July was a special day for us, marking our 40th Wedding Anniversary, yes we started out our marriage with a bang.  Clear skies and calm seas lay ahead of us as we made our way from Kake around the north end of Kupreanof Island.
The Fluke of a Humback Whale
While underway, we came upon a pod of Humpback Whales, at least a dozen of them were seen in all directions from our boat; it was a wonderful show and a nice gift on our special anniversary - perhaps the whales were feeding at the mouth of Portage Bay located along Frederick Sound.
We rounded the north end of Kupreanof Island and arrived in Petersburg at 7:30pm in time for dinner and a short rest.  Around 10:30 in the evening we headed over to the local baseball field at the high school where Petersburg holds its annual 4th of July fireworks display.
It was a fun community event and we were impressed with the number of fireworks for such a small town.  The warm, clear skies and friendly people made for a fun evening.
A Fun Family Affair
To all of our friends and family back home, we send best wishes for a Happy 4th of July.
